Canyon Vista Middle School

See the Impact descriptions for how the tunnel and shafts will impact current and future students and Canyon Vista Middle School. There is convincing evidence, including expert opinion based on Canyon Vista's specific situation, and scientific research, that the risks are serious.

  • Engine noise, repeated every few minutes from passing dump trucks just yards away from the classroom windows, will peak repeatedly to levels that cumulatively have high risk of hurting the learning environment in the classrooms. This will continue without interruption every class period, every school day, for between 2 and 3 years.
  • Children's exposure to truck noise, diesel exhaust, and dust, while outside the classroom, on the fields, running around the track, parking lot, or sidewalks, could reach levels that, cumulatively, can be quite bad for them.
  • Despite AWU assurances of not trucking during pick-up and drop-off times, traffic safety will be a serious risk when loaded 30,000 lb. trucks drive by despite these assurances, or when children leave early, late, or walk, jog, or bike around during school or outside school hours.

The CVMS principal and the PTA appear unaware of the seriousness of these issues, and have consequently done little to make other parents or the City aware. You can help make CVMS understand your concerns by contacting them.

If the Round Rock Independent School District speaks up, it could go a long way to ensuring that concerns about school children get addressed fully. Look at the RRISD structure, and note that Students, Parents, and Community are placed at the top of the heap. Please fill in this form, and see What Else You Can Do. Feel free to contact the necessary authorities directly as well.
